I don't know why Toyota even considered Micheal Waltrip anyway. He is not team owner material, nor was Darrel, as he proved. I did expect a little more from Bill Davis though. He has made progress, but not quite there yet. Toy will get one or more wins in 08. They started off slow in the truck series, but they now dominate, unfortunately. jd

Both the Waltrip's are a sponsers dream. Proof that it's more money than talent now a days in NASCAR. As for Bill Davis, it was a small budget team before Toyota showed up. It will take some time to grow and put the right people in the right places.
If the rumour is true about Gibbs going with Toyota, it will be one of his 3 cars that will get Toyota their first win.
The combination of the COT, the improved engine performance recently and guaranteed starting due to the top 35 rule, you will see a hugh improvement in Toyota's performance in 2008. This is not even considering the great drivers and organization of JGR.

True, but difference is, in Truck Ford, Chevy and Dodge are using young drivers who will someday drive in Busch and Nextel. Toyota is using older and already proven drivers like Bodine, Skinner, Hornaday, Musgrave, Benson, Sprague ...
It is no longer just a rumor. Gibbs had a press conference yesterday and made the official announcement.
Damn it! I hate when work gets in the way of FTE time!
Red Star,
Hornaday drives for Kevin Harvick which field Chevys. I find it ironic that all the drivers you listed besides Benson and Bodine, have won championships driving a Dodge or Chevy.....

Not so. Bill Davis has been around for a long, long time. He gave Jeff Gordon his first ride in the old NASCAR Grand National series driving the Baby Ruth Ford in which Gordon won a ton of races.
Davis has Caterpillar for a sponsor, and money is not a problem. They had the same problems with the Dodges as the other Dodge teams.
He currently has a two car operation, with several trucks, Mike Skinner being the current points leader in one of Bill's trucks. He is a player, and not a small budget team. He has had more success with the Camry than any of the other cup teams.
Gibbs will have the advantage of having access to the data learned from teams such as Davis, and won't have to make the same mistakes. Otherwise, he would have the same growing pains. There is nothing magic about Joe Gibbs. His son runs the racing operation anyway, so he would get the credit. jd

Right, but he has been a 1 car operation for a long, long time. I know his history with Gordon and funny that when Evernham and Gordon left, the team has yet to find the same sucess.

Not quite. Dodge basically ended any association with Davis after the whole "giving secrets to Toyota" fiasco. In other words, Davis was recieving hardly any or any factory support from Dodge. Money is always an issue if you can only support a one car team. Do you happen to know the extent of Caperpillars sponsorship with Davis? ( money value compared to say a company like Home Depot or Dupont )

He is a player in the Truck series and that's about it. Besides the Daytona 500 victory with Ward Burton in which they have Sterling Marlin to thank, what accomplishments has Bill Davis had in Cup?

If anything it will be the other way around. Davis will be using data from Gibbs. I can expect with a large budget team like Gibbs, their R&D for the COT is further ahead than Davis. Hence Gibbs wins with the COT already. No there is nothing magic about Gibbs, but you can credit Joe Gibbs for putting the team where it is today. Do you think drivers like Hamlin, Stewart, or Busch would have given Davis a second glance?
