Typically a larger driver will have better sound reproduction, when I was auditioning speakers the 7" Dynaudio definitely sounded better than the 5 3/4" Dyn's. I wouldn't go any smaller than 6 1/2" in the front, for the rear fill you can get away with the 5 1/4".
The Alpine PDX amps are good but for the same money I would go with the Zapco DC or Reference line or my first choice in that price range would still be JL Audio.
I suggest you to start clean from the source, meaning replace the head unit too. For amp, Alpine is not a bad option. I have Alpine Mono amp for my sub too, power is great. Oh, I have JL audio for subs, love it all the way.
Being as you have a 07 F150 you can only fit 5x7's or 6x8's up front....you might be able to get away with a 5 1/4...but you still will have to trim. They are not like the other Fords where you mount the speaker directly to the door. You actually mount the speaker in these trucks to the door panel and it is inset a couple inches. You cant fit any bigger up front unless you do some major door panel trimming and the speaker cover most likely wouldnt fit back on correctly. Go out and get a flat tool under the speaker cover and pop it off. You will see what I am talking about.
Are you looking for a Coax speaker or a 2 way component set? If you are looking at coax have heard real good things about Pioneer Rev's. Comps, RE makes a real nice set or two as does Image Dynamics.
Don, BOOOOOOO on the eDuh.
Not sure why the ED hate, seeing my SQ10's and 11Ov.s seem to work great. I know Dan Wiggins and Chris up at Adire audio didn't have real bad things to say about some of ED's stuff of course that was around 2000 when ED was a fledgling company
I went to two more car audio stores over the weekend. The one wanted to set me up with an all Alpine system (using all the lower end components) That why I was asking about about the PDX (an upgrade from what he wanted to put in). The other shop wants to set me up with OZ 5 x7 coaxes and OZ 6.5 comps, powered by USAmps 4 and 2 channel amps. He didn't write the model no's nor the sub speaker he was going use on his quick estimate. Are OZ speaks any good?
on edit The comps are OZ Vectors

Reason: add info
US Amps are pretty good amps, back in the day they use to be really good amps but I think their quality has gone down a little - but still respectable amps.
I've never listened to the OZ Audio speakers but from what I've been told the Matrix line is pretty nice but the Vector line is kinda low end - not the greatest crossover and I believe they use a metal dome tweeter, which I think tend to sound harsh. What did you think of them? Have you found a shop that carries Focal yet?
What's your budget for speakers & amps? I don't know if it's out of your budget but I can send you to a site where you can get the Dynaudio 240 mkII for $550 which is about $350 below retail. I know $550 is a lot for a pair of components but I can guarantee you will not find a better sounding speaker.
well my truck I would go with earthquake components they have clear sound
can take lots of power. subs well L7 solo kickers are the way to go. also pioneer 6x8 or 6x9s for door and rear panels. amps., kicker, EQ, pioneer are a great way to go
I have won many trophies for sound quality and also spl comps. with all the above.

Not to be a jerk, but winning a SQ comp with oval speakers is not common.

Unfortunately neither have I.

I've read good reviews on the Matrix on other forums as well. I didn't get to listen to any speakers at that shop because they don't do soundboards. The manager said he don't set up speaker boards because he can make them sound any way that appeals to the customer. I explained to him about leveling the playing field but he just shrugged me off. Another thing that turned me off about them was the fact that they just tap into the factory wires and do not run new speaker wires. I was told that factory wiring is good for anything 100 watts rms and below? Is this true?

Not yet. I will be calling Bee's again this week(end).
[QUOTE=200Proof] What's your budget for speakers & amps?
Somewhere around $1200 +/- I wish I could spend more and get the Dynaudio's but not at this time. Maybe a future upgrade though.
I think I would try another shop - that one sounds like a joke. You definetly want to run new oxygen free copper speaker wire, preferably 12 AWG but 16 will work fine for everything except the sub.
well it is all in how everything is set up. and to think outside the box stands out.you do not know what can be done until you try and or use somethings that are uncommon.
note some of the componets in my tyuck you can not see. or would ever think it could
work but it does. and very well.
