OK, well I am having a problem that needs to be remedied tather quickly since this truck is my daily driver, and I need to daily drive my *** to school- which starts again on Monday. I just put in a new intake manifold and carb in my truck- the problem is, when its cold, I can barely start it. It take awhile to get it going, it turns over so strong and it wants to start I know it. I replaced the starter last month, and the battery a few weeks before that. I have a feeling its something to do with that carb- a Carter AFB Competition 4-barrel. I have a manual choke and on my old stock 2 barrel seetup, I would pull the choke out to start it, let it get warm, push it in and never have a problem. This one does seem to work like that- I pull the choke out and nothing happens- well, it does close the meta flange like its supposed to, but engine wise nothing happens. Please help me out!

If the choke plate closes too much, no air. If it's not closed enough, then you get too much air. Pull the **** all the way out and check the choke plate. There should be about 1/8" clearance between the edge of the blade and the choke housing. It may be that you only need to learn when to stop pulling the choke ****.
Of course if the old one was adjusted so that when the **** was pulled all the way out, the choke plate was slightly open, then that'd work. Now I just read another post of yours on another forum about an off idle backfire problem, and that could be related to your starting problem. Incorrect timing or a vacuum leak will really foul things up. Good luck!
Well, I wanted to check on any more information on this prob. before I went out and tried my truck. Its about 12:00 here, I know, I am a lazy kid who sleeps in haha- but common, our winter break is almost over and school is going to start up again. Anyway, its raining alot since I am in good ole Washington, so I'm sure looking forward to being out there....wooeee...
I'll check the choke though. I pulled the choke on my stock carb since its in my garage and it closes almost all the way- just a little opening like you said. Who knows....I'll check out anything as for now. Thanks
