Power door locks

I have replaced the power door locks four times (two pairs) in three years. I'm talking about the actuators. Now the passenger side is working intermiten and driver's not at all. I'm getting really frustrated. I never changed them on my 88' Bronco in 15 years.

The only thing I can think of is my 90 Bronco has a feature that locks and unlocks the doors every time I start it. Could it just be waring them out? Is there a way to disconnect this feature? I hate it any way. (you reach in to start the truck and walk to the front for some reason and you are locked out.)

I have been buying the replacments from ebay. Do you think they are bad quality? How are the rest of you makeing out?

Make sure you lube your mechanisms with white lithium grease! sounds like they are having to work to hard maybe. How are the window seals, you might want to take the door panel off after a good rain or after you wash your truck maybe water is getting in there! You can try running wires straight from the battery and make sure it is the actuators and not in the wiring, just a thought!

Its deffiantly the actuators. They have a rubber boot over them, so I wouldnt think it was because of water. I think I'm going to replace them one more time with dealer items. (If they sell them.) I wish I had a good junkyard around me.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the rubber boot deal! I would still check for water after a rain. So you are not redoing them down the road. Something is definately wearing them out excessively!

My experience was from my 85 Bronco. The rubber boots always rip eventually and then water gets in, they don’t last long after that. My fix was to take a piece of plastic wrap and wrap it around the actuator rod with a tie wrap just above to boot. Let the bottom hang around the actuator so any moisture that get in can get out. This will prevent what drips down from getting in the torn boot. It worked well for me. Also when your shopping junk yards for actuators, you don’t need to find a truck one. The car units are the same and they are a lot easier to find. The rod is just shorter. You can swap the rods.

I dont recall, but I think it was about 50 bucks. They were brand new. I think made in Tiawan. These days its posible they are OEM parts.
