Hi, I have a 97 Ranger with a 2.3 engine. The Air Conditioner compressor will not run. I have checked the voltage across the clutch coil. There is no voltage.
I do not have a electrical diagram of this system. I did not see any sudden loss
of gas. It just stopped working. I have checked all fuses. All are ok. My question is does this system have a built in sensor to check for pressure or gas in the system that would prevent the compressor from getting voltage to run.
Any ideas,
I think there is a cycling switch that is what engages the clutch. I think you can test the cluctch by shorting the switch for a short interval to see if it comes on. If so, you either have a bad switch or you are low on refrigerant.
Jim hit it on the head. Try emptying and recharging the system, (I usually go by refrigerant weight when I do this, but there are kits with gauges that seem to work), and if it still doesn't engage look into a new cycling switch. Their not expensive, (less than ten bucks), and they mount onto the tee thingo going into the accumulator. If it's a 2.3 then the accumulator is most probably on the passenger side towards the back by the blower motor. The charge nipple is right above it.
