I tried in this post in the transmission section with no help. so I thought I would try it here.
I have a 89 f-250 and I was driving down the road and suddenly it started to clatter. Almost sounds like you put a card in bicycle spokes. From what I have heard the oil pump broke loose and is spinning inside. I have also heard that you can put a screw in it to hold it so it doesn't happen again. Does this work or would I be better off to buy a kit? And I have never torn into a t case is there any thing I should know before opening it up? Thanks
what do you mean kit? A rebuild kit? you will still have to repair the case in some way or another. Yes the bolt works but you'll still have to split it apart, only bad thing is it can give the t-case another place to leak. Some take the case half and get it welded back up in the worn spot. Or you can buy a new case half, or transfer case if you keep driving it. should be straight forward (I think you need a set of torx)
Thanks for the help and the articles they are great. Do any of know where to buy parts for this t case. I found just about everything but the planetary gear set. Mine is worn pretty good I don't want to put it back in, but I can't find a new one. Thanks again.
