Trailer lights

I hooked up my trailer to my 2000 F-150 via the 4 wire flat connector but got nothing. I bought a circuit tester and no lights are showing up. I looked in the owners manual but can't find which fuse operates the trailer jack. Anyone know a good place to begin tracking down this problem?

I'm pretty sure that it is on a completely different circuit than your tail lights. Try looking in the power dist. box under the hood. I think that there is a relay or a fuse located there for trailer lights. Hope this helps.

There is a relay for the running lights.

Each brake/turn lamp has it's own fuse, but no individual relay.

Have you lost both brake and running lamps or just one of them?

I've lost everything as best I can tell. When I first got the trailer I hooked them up and the brake lites would come on when I turned the headlights on. The lights would completely go out when I hit the brakes and everything seemed to work fine for the blinkers. I hooked up some test wires hoping to try different combinations and I imagine I shorted out the whole system. Will check under hood like suggested for the various fuses. Thanks all.

The fuses are under the hood.
