If the truck sits for a day, I get a REALLY strong smell of gas. Funny thing is, no puddles of gas, no spray patterns... no leaks (one slight drip at the carb, working on fixing that...) the smell is coming from the rear, tank, hoses are new... if anyone can help... please do.
start the truck and let her run for a few minutes. then the fuel system will have vaccuum in it and check for leaks. you could also have a leak somewhere on the tank, it may only leak when its running. i had a truck years ago, which to the best of my knowledge would leak only after my hour ride to work. it dripped a little and would eventually stop. it was short lived and the leak got worse. at first i smelled gas and saw gas around the front strap. hope this helps.
I appreciate the response. I've had two mechanics here (MD Ford) look at the truck. It's a poly tank and the gas cap itself is badly decayed. I'll crank it up later and see if maybe the pick-up tube is leaking, could there be a vent issue or something?
If you have your evap system hooked up and working check the return line that follows the passanger frame rail. Theres a rubber hose that goes through the frame in front of the right rear tire. Check that to make sure its in good shape.
The neoprene vent hose MUST be taped to the neoprene fill hose, otherwise it will partially collapse. Not only will this cause leaks, but filling the tank will take longer. When the truck was new or a replacement hose was purchased over the parts counter the fill hose came with the vent hose...taped in at least four places.

The vent hose is partially kinked and it's 107 degrees in our parking lot... would that be the cause?
Mil1ion and I gave the causes and effects.
The reason the vent hose is kinked, is because it's collapsed, or it's an aftermarket replacement that's longer than necessary. The vent hose must be taped to the fill hose.
That's the way it came new on the truck, and the genuine Ford replacement fill hose came with the vent hose taped to it.

You were right, when they replaced my tank, the left the fill/vent lines WAY too long and it's kinked in three places... I'm calling them in about 5 minutes.
