I have an 87 f-250 that i want to put a single stack on.
What do I need, and how much fabbing will I need to put a single stack right in the middle of the bed? I think I'm going for one 6 or 7" stack for my truck.
Welcome to FTE blaster77. The parts you"ll need are a reducer from whatever size stack you're going with to the size you're current exhaust pipe is, I think its 2.5 after the y pipe if I remember right. you will have to probably use a couple reducers to go from 6" to 2.5". next get a couple 90 degree exhaust elbows, I would go with a 3" elbow because those babies get pricey when you get over 3" diameter. you'll need some clamps and maybe some pipe to connect everything together. cut a hole in the bed and make a bracket out of scrap steel to hold the stack in place. I probably haven't covered everything but that should get you started.
You know it will get in the way of your rear view mirror.
You will have to plumb it so it bends over the driveshaft and put a heat shield by the diesel tank, thats pretty close and it could get pretty hot.
Never saw one in the middle before, definatley custom and one-of-a-kind.
what about coming up through the bed on the far passenger side and running and s-pipe to the middle? it would probably be unsightly, but it would avoid any trouble posed by running the exhaust underbed near the driveshaft/fuel tank. grand rock pipes makes a single kit that comes up almost near the center of the bed, you could just shorten and rotate the s-pipe in the bed in order to put the stack in the center.
