I have a 99 F-250 that vibrates at speeds from 40 mph and up. I've just replaced all tires since I thought my old tires were the problem. I've check the shocks and everything looks good. I've also checked the drive shaft and leaf springs and those appear to be fine. I've even had the new tires balance again and still no improvement. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
I had my work done at the dealership. I am not exactly sure but from what I understand they check the rim/wheel on the machine and then the tire. They match any high spots on the tire with the low spots on the wheel from what I understand. It makes it ride much smoother than just a normal balance job.<o>
</o> You should be able to ask you local tire guy if he can do the road force balance if you don't want to go the dealership service dept. My local tire guy didn't have the equipment and suggested the dealership. They found the wheel to be out of round so I bought a new one. That fixed the problem and the truck rolls smooth as could be. I have the steel wheels so the new one wasn't too pricy.<o></o><o></o>
Also, the dealership didn't charge me for testing and road force balancing the wheels. I only had to pay for mounting and balancing the new one.
Road Force is a computerized balancing system that incorporates a sensor that monitors imperfections in the tire, sidewall, and wheel. It does this by putting pressure on the tire similar to the force exerted against the road. I think Hunter manufactures it. It was and has been the only way I have been able to get my tires balanced, I hated the truck for the first 60,000 miles and was ready to sell it because no one could balance the wheels. My tire shop that I now use after finding out about the roadforce also indexes the tire by placing the heavy part of the wheel 180 degrees from the heavy part of the tire minimizing the amount of wheel weights required.
I have a 05 F250 with a vibration problem. I have been to 3 tire shops and had new tires road force balanced and they tell me the tires are excellent. I was told it was the steering stabilizer since I have a 4 inch lift and BFG 35s I needed dual stabilizer I did it still have vibration. Then I was told it could be a bad shock,I replaced all 4 with Rancho 9000x shocks, still have vibration!!!! Comes in around 40mph to 70mph Drive shaft looks good, no weights missing, U joints look good no play any suggestions?????
I recently hand a vibration also. Did the tire thing and it didn't help. Turned out that my carrier bearing was going out. Also caused the rear u joint and seal to go. $688.00 later good as new. See if you can wiggle the driv shaft at all. Shouldn't have any play.......
I had this problem years ago on my old Ranger. Took it to a shop where they trued the tires by shaving them to be perfectly concentric with the wheel. It took care of all the vibration problems i had. Might be that these were lousy tires i had, but it's something to consider.
