Red face Cold-Air Intakes

Need some help here. I see there are quite a few different cold-air intakes available for the 6.0's. Give it to me, what would you choose?

K&N
Banks
AFE
AirRaid

i belive the overwhelming responses you will get here are:

a. STAY AWAY FROM K&N. these seem to be notorious for letting way too much
dirt into the turbo.

b. AFE STAGE II W/PROGUARD 7 MEDIA-if you go aftermarket, this seems to be the
preferred way to go. 99.95 fine dust trapment, 99.95 course dust trapment,
plenty of airflow, keeps hot engine air away from intake.
c. use the stock ford intake with the donaldson drop in filter. this filter will hold over
3 lbs of dirt, and supports enough airflow for 500RWHP

hope this helps. afe is reasonably priced

Thanks for the reply. Yea, after market would be my preference, I'd like to dump the old bulky box.

That stock AIS unit you have is one of the BEST filtration units available.

None of the above. Stick with the OEM Donaldson air intake. It provides the best filtration on the market, provides more air than the 6.0 can use until you exceed 500RWHP (this takes more than a tuner), holds over 3lbs of dirt and will last up to 80k miles.

IMO there are better A/M products to spend your money on for the 6.0, ie coolant filter, gauges, by-pass oil filter, cross-over fuel line kit.

My truck came with an AFE Magnum Force Stage I (i think?) intake. I'm thinking about trying out the no oil version of their proguard 7 filter. That or put the Donaldson in. My truck frequently makes an annoying high pitched whistle when driving around.

I have a afe stage 1 in my truck I will probably turf it for the stock filter I don't think it does any better than stock. I never put it on the truck it was on the truck when I bought it. I never beleived in the reusable filters or ones that claim to increase power buy letting more air through. If they are letting more air through it means more dirt is getting through.

Appreciate all the replys. I dont' question the filtration aspect of the OEM filter, nor the power handling capabilities now but...is there any hard data on the 6.0s to show HP gain differences?

One of the diesel power mags had an article on aftermarket vs stock air cleaners. They tested a bunch of them and found no significant improvement over the OEM until as stated you get to the 500 hp arena. I know all the others say change out to after market, but if OEM is that good why? Aftermarket may clean up the engine bay some but again other than that why change?

mine was mostly for aesthetic reasons. i just like to keep away from the stock appearance as much as possible, when i have extra dough to blow, i will probably ditch the air raid and switch it to afe, but for now, i'm good to go.

That's what I've had on my truck from day one. I'm at 13k now.

I'm still trying to find out if AFE makes a Proguard 7 filter for my Airraid intake. I am happy with my Airraid so far, but I would rather not have to mess with oiling the filter.

Anyone been able to find out yet? I sent them an email once, and a guy wrote back asking for dimensions of the filter. I wrote him back with the dimensions from Airraids site, but never heard from him again.
