There's a truck for sale nearby that I'm interested in, and here's what I know about it:
1981 Ford F-100 Ranger
I-6 Engine
New (rebuilt) C-6 transmission about a year old.
(Approximately) 130,000 miles.
Dual exhaust.
Runs well, needs a/c recharge, and at least a coat of paint and other cosmetic work.
Does anyone know the approximate gas mileage on a truck like this, and what'd be a fair price?
I know this forum is the right place to ask such questions (car/truck buying advice).
However I will move your thread to the 80-86 forum - you will get greater response there
the milage of the l-6 is alright you can get 18 on the interstate but in town you can get as little as 8. that is what i was gettin in my 86 it has a l-6. i have recantly convered it over to a four berral and put headers on it not only did it wake up the truck but i have also improved the gas milage quit a bit i can get any were from 12 to 15 in town and 15-20 on the interstate depending on if i'm pull a trailer.

Aye my friend, one of the best places to look for the value of any vehicle is via the internet. Now the Kelly Blue Book might give you the trade-in/resale value but does not consider many options. Some vehicles may appraise above..some below current value. It depends on who wants it and what they're willing to spend. In most cases a rebuilt engine/transmission adds little to the value unless a warrantee is available to support said claim. Most values are based entirely on mileage and year of manufacturer. Period. New paint adds little, as does new upholstery, running gear (brake-job, etc.) and many of the other things we consider important. Antiques or collectible vehicles are an entirely different matter. Adding in a Bose stereo system, amp and $800. speakers will not raise the value of a vehicle..nor will dual exhausts, 4barrel carbs or custom seats. Unless you (the buyer) consider it worth the increased price. For the most part I will say any improvements we make on our vehicles only have value to us..the owners. As far as resale value..nope. Nada. Many times a pristine non-modified low milage vehicle is worth more. Now that's J.M.H.O (just my humble opinion) of course. Can't say much about the gas milage of said truck but I will say if it's a 300 inline six..buy it. I have an 86 with the 302 V-8, E.F.I., A.O.D. by the way. I love this truck but I'd opt for the 300 with a C6 trans. in a heartbeat! With a carb.! Audie..the longwinded oldfart...
