The question that I have is how much diffrence would I see with an aftermarket exaust compared to a cat muffler delete? My truck is currently stock and I am just exploring my options.
Difference in what? Power will be negligable. Sound with straight pipe will be lots of whistle at cruise and deep throaty when your on the accelerator. Sound with turbo back with cat and muff will be throaty when on accelerator and slight whistle while cruising. The biggest improvement an exhaust gives is lower EGT's. By going up to a 3.5" downpipe and hi flow muffler the EGTs drop quite a bit. I would think straight piping a stock system would yield the same results.
I personally love my exhaust and I have not removed the cat or muff. My dealer is cool with it too, which is very important. I have had a lot of compliments on my exhaust sound. Two 6" tips coming out the back looks pretty good too. I thought it may look like those gay rice rocket stovepipes coming out the back, but the rep at MBRP told me to stick with them and I love it! Oh, install was pretty simple. If you get the turbo back, drop your spare tire to ease in taking the old exhaust out in one piece.
Since the OEM DP is 3" an aftermarket DP 3.5" or 4" will help with the EGTs. Removing the cat or muffler will help the sound as well as ehxaust flow. Unless you are going to get serious about power they (Modded OEM or full aftermarket kit)would most likely be very close in performance gains (if any) or sound.
