How many alternators are under your hood?
Mine only has one, but many out there has two. And it does make a differance with belts, hoses and many other things.
did ONLY the ambulance have dual alts or what, now that everyone keeps asking I think I see one on the pass side(in my head anyway) CRRRRRAAAAAPPPPPP!!!!!
the standard alt is up top on the driver's side..if you have a second, it will be mounted below, on the passenger side, almost straight down from the A/C compressor .. not just ambulances did . my truck has dual alts..
well the " main " tested at only 12v so is this the problem, can I buy just that one or will the second one being bad also give me a bad reading on the main?
If I had to guess, I would guess a single. Seems the be quite a bit more singles than duals. I don't know how much differance it make as I have never delt with duals. Maybe TNT will jump in.
Probably not much help here but an interesting thing I saw today while looking at a T444E engine today. That thing had a single alternator but I am here to tell you it was HUGE. All the wiring looked much bigger too.
As a matter of fact, with the exception of the block, everything was huge. Well, except for the intake plenums which were the same size. Sorry Gene.
I am going to try to get some time to have a closer look at one of those things one day when it's not 100* outside.
well I have a single and I am gonna get the batteries tested tomorrow while Im at it to make sure they are ok too. The post for the pos side to that alt was able to wigle a little could this have been the prob? I wonder......oh well everything is off now and we'll see what happens

All terminations should be clean and tight. Get one of those terminal post cleaners and clean the post and cable.
