How many alternators are under your hood?
Mine only has one, but many out there has two. And it does make a differance with belts, hoses and many other things.

By the way, the only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask. LOL

the standard alt is up top on the driver's side..if you have a second, it will be mounted below, on the passenger side, almost straight down from the A/C compressor .. not just ambulances did . my truck has dual alts..

If I had to guess, I would guess a single. Seems the be quite a bit more singles than duals. I don't know how much differance it make as I have never delt with duals. Maybe TNT will jump in.

I have dual alternators, thought that they would help protect from getting stranded when one craps out. So far so good.

BTW, the second alternator is in front of the CPS and makes changing the CPS out a little more difficult.

Probably not much help here but an interesting thing I saw today while looking at a T444E engine today. That thing had a single alternator but I am here to tell you it was HUGE. All the wiring looked much bigger too.

As a matter of fact, with the exception of the block, everything was huge. Well, except for the intake plenums which were the same size. Sorry Gene.

I am going to try to get some time to have a closer look at one of those things one day when it's not 100* outside.

All terminations should be clean and tight. Get one of those terminal post cleaners and clean the post and cable.
