F350 overload leafs...

I loaded up truck in sig this weekend with about 2000lbs of firewood. I just purchased this truck and it was the first time I had it loaded. I noticed that my overload leaves contacted only the front rubber bumpers at about 1500lbs. The truck drove awsome on my 200 mile journey, solid and stable and got me 14 mpg!!. My question is: Is it normal for the overload leaves to contact the front bumpers first? And is it nomal to have contact at 1500lbs? Am wondering if my leaf springs are getting worn.

Thanks
Itch

I'd say contact after that kind of load is normal. I'd venture a guess that your spring pack had 5 leafs being that you have a crew cab, unless you have a dually then it would have 6 leafs. My old springs were 4 leafs, and the overloads would contact after about 5-600lbs. And yes, it contacts in the front first. My new packs are 6 leaf, but I have yet to load down the truck to see how well the new springs hold up.

My 71 F350 dually has 12 leafs each side with 5 leafs on overloads. The overloads don't start touching til about 2 tons.

Your '71 is most likely a chassis cab which would have that many leafs. The '87-96 chassis cabs had a 10 leaf main pack with a 4 leaf overload. Itch71 has a regular 1ton pickup, so it has a standard 5 leaf or possibly a 6 leaf due to it being a crewcab.

You are correct stryder. I have 4 leafs + 1 overload leaf. I'd almost say the truck drove better with 2000lbs in the back than empty. Not talking about high speed cornering here, but just straight highway driving....real solid. Had a few steep inclines too, that were barely noticable. I'm thinking about adding air bags to my rear suspension....are these any good? I believe it will level the rear end out when loaded. I would realy like to get a 2" lift out of them too when empty. Can this be achieved?

thanks
Itch
