I am assuming you have a certain brand tach, and their instructions tell you to hook it to #48?
Your truck probably has coil packs correct? Or coil-on-plug? #48 is probably going to be the only reliable place to get consistent pulses on every revolution. You can't tie into the coil like the old days, since your coils only fire once or twice every 2 revolutions.
I was thumbing through my owners manual and happend to see ignition EDIS for the 4.2L and coil packs/blah blah blah for the 4.6 and up. So right now it seems like its the only choice. The tach only tells me to hook it up to the neg. side of the coil. it's a cheepy.
Well I figured out how to hook up an aftermarket tach on atleast an 02 f-150 4.2L, im not sure about any of the v8's though. I'll post a how-to when i get done taking pictures.
