Seems like every time I come in here and start reading about a problem someone is having with their truck the same thing happens to mine within a few days. *LOL*
I bought a 97 F150 4.2 V6 about 5-6 weeks ago thinking I got a really good deal. I've driven it back and forth to work most days since I bought it (about 25 miles round trip) and I've taken LOML to the nearest Wallyworld a few times (about 50 miles round trip). Every thing seemed to be going great so I decided to take the new (to me) truck on a little longer trip to visit my grandson for his b'day this past weekend. The trip was 150 miles each way and everything started out fine, the truck did really well all the way up there. I went out a couple hours after we arrived to move the truck to unload some plants I had taken my daughter, turned the key and SPIT, CHUG, WHAM..... engine locked. Of course it fired on one or two cylinders before it locked and that gave it enough momentum to evidently bend a rod. After I pulled the spark plug and got the water out of #1 cylinder, when I started the engine it had a severe knock.
And the worst part of it was having to trailer the truck home behind son-in-laws Z-71 Shoveaway. !!!!!!
I guess I was a lucky guy. I had a 97 4.2 for 60K miles with no problem. The guy I sold it to is still driving it too.
I feel pretty lucky to have sold it now that I read your post.
