Well i did the work myself, but all i did is changed the gaskets like oil pan, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, and the other truck was 2wd the truck i put the motor in is 4wd so i changed oil pump and pans. But the only real mechanical change was timing set since the old one was very old. But i did advance the cam, and that is what has caused me all this trouble. But i did see this on bubba's m-bock ford v-8 workshop " When M-blocks were introduced in trucks in the 1977 model year, the truck engines went back to the original, non-retarded camshaft timing. So if your M-block is from a '77-up truck with the OEM timing set, it doesn't have the retarded camshaft timing." Does anyone know if this is completly true. because my block is a 79, and that is why i put the timing set on and when i did i advanced it. So if that is true im going to make it factory again like it was before. Then also today i turn the engine over with a huge rachet wrench and when i did i could here the pressure being released into the intake, and yes the rotor was moving counterclockwise.
Boy howdy!!! I am so happy for you, I hate that this happened to you but at least we all learned something today or should I say I did? I did not know that about the cam advance had gone back in 77 but I was not far from going into mine and advancing the cam also.I knew your problem was timing by the way it was spitting back thru the carb,It had to be getting ignition but it was at the wrong time. Good luck from here out and hope you get her going. Jim
Is it possible to get the timing cover back on without droping the oil plan a little, maybe by shaving a little off of the seal. would that cuase a leak. I was thinking of doing that and sealing the front oil pan real good with alot of silicone.
Well, i got everything fixed and got my truck running. i put the timing set back to factory. But she runs ok right now but that is because of the timing, tommorow i will use a timing light get it right and fix couple of the small transmission line leaks and i will be able to drive my truck again. Thanks everyone for the help and you guys have greatly helped me and my friends for a while now. Thanks.
