My dad bought my 92 f350 with a 7.3 natural aspirated diesel second hand in 98. Every since we owned it the truck has had a slight tic in the motor. When we first got it, the truck had about 80,000 miles on it. Now the truck has 172000 miles on it and has given us no troubles. My pops passed the truck on to me now and i would like to fix it up a little bit. The noise seems to quiet down when you put it under a strain. Any suggestion on what yall think it might be.
Welcome to the most information and experience (good and bad) you will ever find on these trucks. My guess from the information you have given is its just normal injector noise. Do you use a fuel lubrication additve. If so give it an extra shot, if not you should be using some. If that reduces the noise good- keep up with the additve. Also are the rubber return lines and o-rings original- painted grey- if so you would be well advised to throw on a return line kit. Welcome to the site once again!
I'm also having problem with a slight tic from my IDI -92, which seems to happen now and then under various kinda loads.
I thought it might me related to push rod valves , clogging up and starts rattling.
But, last weeks, I've noticed a little leak at one of the injector sealings, that little rubber ring. I also have have the original grey painted fuel lines, but why do you guys want them changed ? Could this little rattling noice come from this leaky injector o-ring place?.
