Hi all....havent seen any postings on this subject,so maybe someone with experience can tell me....'96 explorer eb 4x4....can this unit be changed to a straight 2 wheel drive by removing front drive shafts andtransfer case? what else needs to be changed??
I went from 4X4 to 4X2 on my 03
I think the biggest problem was the tranny.I had to remove the tail housing( that bolted to the T case) and put a shorter tail shaft in.
Or you could just get a 2 wheel drive tranny.
4X4 and 2 wheel drive trannys are not the same.
Hi! Phil...thank you for answer...i havent got much $ in this unit, and maybe have a prob with front differential/cv joints...was hoping to just bypass/remove them and have 2 wheel drive...can leave transfer case in place and remove from there to wheels?
I took out the front div and the CV shafts also but the CVs go through the front wheel and hold it on. So what we did was cut the CV off at the back side of the wheel and put that piece back through the wheel/put the nut back on the outside of the wheel and that holds it all together.
You should be ok with just leaving the T case in place. We took it out just to get rid of some weight.
