i have been hearing this noise for about 3-4 months! searched everything, could never figure out what it was. changed every fluid frome axle to axle. finally to as it was progressively getting worse i noticed a lot of play in the driveshaft center support bearing. anyone that has had this go out on their truck for the first time, knows what a mystery the sound is if you don't know what it is. that aggrivated me for so long, and i couldn't figure it out until recently when it would clunk right at take-off, and some highway vibration.
so now i know, what a relief.
FYI the noise sounds like wind passing underneath your truck with a bit of bad bearing "hum"/grind noise to it. hope this helps someone that was as baffled as i was.
Does this link below outline your problem? I think I might be having the same problem. The hum doesnt get any loader when I go faster, its just more pronounced at lower speeds. Occasionally I get a clunck (no noise, just a feel) when I let of the brakes, always thought it might be my ABS coming of off a fairly hard stop. Thanks for the info!!!
