Gents:
I do not know much about A/C untis but on one of my 6L work trucks it leaks what appears to be water from the passenger fender. I understand this may be normal but we have not used the A/C for a couple weeks and it leaks as fast as a baby does immediatly after turn off. Say a 2 feet dia puddle in 5 minutes.
I assume this is not normal when the A/C has been turned off. Does the A/C compressor run all the time or does the work truck have a problem.
Any advise would be mch appreciated before I consider spending some money on diagnoses.
The AC system operates more often then we think. If the defroster is on, the AC is also on. AC run status depends on the type of heat/vent system that is installed in the truck.
If the leakage is water, then it is AC condensate.
The defroster is on 95% of the time the other 5% is when it is warm enough for A/C. The puddle is water likely from the condensor so I gues the A/C is on all the time.
It just seems unecessary to have a puddle under the truck as many people has been telling my workers fairly often "Excuse me your truck seems to be leaking something".
I'll make the workers leave the system on vent only and see it avoids the nuisence.
Last couple days ran the truck on "vent mode" (ie no ac or no defrost). Still getting two foot diameter puddle under the passenger fender on the work truck within say 5-10 minutes after parking it. It is definately coming from the condensor and it is water.
Does anybody else get this on there truck?
It seems as though the ac is running all the time. The temperature here has been 75 degree F during the day and the vents maybe feels it is blowing ac air but not certain. There is humidity built up on the trucks windows after say an 1 hour after the truck is parked. What can be the problem and how to fix it if this is not normal. I am wondering if this may be resulting in slightly more poor fuel economy of 1MPG we are seeing lately.
Other threads have suggested that the compressor runs pretty often on most settings to reduce the incidence of corrosion within the compressor.
I have an 03 and unless I'm running heat, my drops condensation almost everytime I shut mine down. I have ceased to be concerned about the truck taking a leak when I park in. LOL.
