depends on the amount of sound you want. For a mellow tone barely louder than stock, go with magnaflow or a 50 series flowmaster. If you want a lot of noise go with a 40 series Flowmaster. I run a single inlet/dual outlet 40 series Flowmaster with 2 1/4" pipes with 3 1/2" tips on my Ranger. I like it but the droning sound at interstate speeds with my 4.10 gears gets a little old after a while.
The exhaust system on this vehicle was 2.25" from the cat back to the muffler, and then stepped to 2.50" after the muffler to compensate for the bends in the tailpipe. It does have an exhaust tip, but the style that was used has little effect on the sound.
The main difference between our FullBlown mufflers and the FM brand is price. Ours cost much less. And we stand by the product, it is every bit as well made as the original. Our 50 series is constructed slightly differently. These are not the cheap Chinese knock-offs some other vendors supply, these are quality products.
The original FM 40 series is about the loudest muffler you can get but it also resonates in the cab. However, they have other versions of the 40 that doesn't along with the 50 series.
