hey guys.
i have a 1979 f250 super cab with a 400 c6 and np205.
the tranny is gone and the engine i do not know the condition after sitting for a year.
i also have a 1979 f150 s cab iwth a 351M np435 and np205.
how hard would it be to swap the f150 drivtrain into the f250 supercab?
if you swap the motors it would be easy. if you swap the auto trans for the manual, you will need to get or install clutch linkage. the drivesahfts maybe different too. if you have a parts truck it could be easy. see if the ujoint sizes are the same. if you sitck with the trucks original tranny it might be easier. the driveshaft lengths are probably different. the yoke sizes could be too. if you want to swap trannys, remove and check to see if they fit one another. if not you can usually buy remanned shafts at parts stores, then trade in the unused for cores.
Change clutch linkage in as stated above then youll need new drive shafts. front will be to long and back to short. A 435 is a fair amount shorter than a c6. Then youll have to bypass the nuetral saftey switch. Look on the wiring that comes out of the the firewal towards the pass side of the truck. the switch in the 4spd truck will be gray and just have one red wire. Just unplug it and plug it in on your auto truck where the wires goin to the tranny plug in by the fire wall. Thats how it comes factory.
