Hey fellas, I recall a thread a while back about intercoolers and how a big PSD intercooler would be too big and create excessive turbo lag. I also recall someone mentioning that a smaller more efficient intercooler should be used instead. Well this morning while I was browzing my local forums, I found a guy selling a slightly used "2g dsm" intercooler off a Subaru turbo. No idea what "2g dsm" stands for but he only wants $20. He is gonna send me some pics if he can and just out of curiosity I thought I would ask on here if this would be a good investment. This intercooler I believe is about 1/2 or even 1/3 of the size of a PSD intercooler. Maybe smaller than that. The plus is its a low buck cooler that is small and high efficiency. Let me know what you guys think.
DSM - Diamond Star Motors... AKA Mitsubishi/Chrysler colaboration...
Most commonly referenced as the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, or Plymouth Laser clones...
1st gen of them was 1990-1994.
2nd gen of them was 1995-1999.
Both available with the 4G63 engine which is known for being fairly stout and taking a good amount of boost before becoming scrap metal. The engine design is still in use in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (Evo) and has won Mitsubishi several World Rally Championships.
Makes sense a decently sized intercooler would be on there...
However, it is still just a little 2.0L I4 engine. I'd think it'd be restrictive...
I'd get identical cores from several Volvo turbo vehicles and make custom end tanks. That should be a decent intercooler.
