Unhappy 1990 ford ranger

I have 1990 ford ranger 4.0 2 wheel drive I hooked the battery up backwards now my truck will not start it will turn over but gets no fire something went out please help

how is this the wrong forum? He has a Ranger? Buck get out your multimeter and start by checking for power at the fuses with the key on. If all them check out. Put a screwdriver in the coil wire and set it close to a grounded metal part and crank it to see if you are getting spark. Let us know how that goes And DO NOT use a lightbulb based voltage checker It will over amp the circuit and could fry your computer!! $15.00 for a digital multimeter is cheap compared to a computer!

Don't forget to check all of the fusible links. There are several of them. The owners manual should tell you where they are. My Dad did that same thing to a 1988 F-150. He blew out the fusible link near the starter solenoid on the inner fender. Sometimes you can see or feel a "bubble" in a blown fusible link but using your voltage meeter would be your best bet.
