I've got a Python alarm with autostart and when the dealer hooked it up, he couldn't find where the tachometer wire was. So he hooked it up to the voltmeter to sense the voltage to see if the truck was running. Since I've got a diesel, the glow plugs fire for the first 30 second to 1 minute, thus dropping the voltage while at idle. When I autostart the truck, it will run for about 10 seconds and since the glow plugs are drawing down the voltage the alarm thinks the truck died and will shut off and restart.
It's pretty darn annoying since I can't leave the AC or heater on high and used the autostart for what it's intended. Anyone know where this wire is so it can be fixed?
First off, the dealer is an idiot if he can't find the tach wire. I would question the entire installation. I'm at work, and I dont have access to directwire, but when I get home tonight (after the races) I'll see if I can come up with something for you.

On the outset, yes, the dealer looks like an idiot, but I've been going there for 12+ years and will only let one guy work on my stuff. The guy does good work and if he couldn't find it, I will take his word for it.
According to DEI Directechs wiring information, on the diesel, your tach wire will be white/pink, and the wait to start wire is black/pink. You will need both of these for proper operation of a remote start on a diesel. You will need to diode isolate the wait to start feed. Both wires are located in the main harness to the left of the brake pedal or at the PCM.

Thank you! I'll take it back and have them fix it, it sure is annoying!

No problem. I've put in my fair share of remote starts/alarms and it makes me mad when people dont do them right. Even without knowing the wire colors, a good installer should be able to find every wire with a voltmeter. It is very time consuming to do so, but its worth it in the end to have a satisfied customer.
