do I need to remove old paint
Hello all! I was told long ago that if my original paint was still good and not flaking, I would not have to remove it to repaint the truck and that it could be used as the primer. Is this true? It is kind of faded and I am wanting to repaint it. Thanks all.

If it is really original, probably not I would say. Its only when the paint is lifting or in too many layers that there is trouble adding paint. Too thick causes problems and then there are even more layers to remove to get it right. Sand it correctly, re-primer and paint.

If there are no dents or rust that needs attention, go ahead an get a few red 3M scuff pads and scuff everywhere that is getting painted. You should be fine with just spraying over the old paint, but sealing the old paint wouldnt be a bad idea. It helps with inhibiting rust and it also is easier to cover than another color and makes sure you get even color coverage.
