I have a new to me 1999 F-250 4x4 SC SB V10 Lariat. This beast has 37,000 miles on it and isn't due for an oil change until 40,000 but I want to be prepared. Which oil is the best for the V10 and which filter? I have my preference for my wifes Explorer but that is a V6.
Sorry but you did suggest that I post it here also! :-X11 Is this going to be like my PSD is better than your V10 topics? Which I don't believe, the V10's rule! Now this should get something going!

Oh...that's right...
I think there are many different opinions about which oil to use. Probably as many as V10 owners out there. Great thing is that you'll get a whole lot options, that for the most part will give you good results in your V10.
I don't think us V10 owners get into it with PSD owners. Even though the reverse is true. I think it is because we are confident in our choice as one that will satisfy our engine needs and not our pshycological needs (read:small member).
Ok guys, I bought the Mobil 1 oil. This isn't any cheap oil either! I also got the MotorCraft filter. Doesn't this filter seem a bit small? The filter on my wifes Explorer is bigger and it is a V6. Is there a remote filter setup that can be added so I can run bigger or dual filters?

The oil isn't cheap, but it's about the best made. And the filter IS pretty small... should be an FL-820S. There has been some discussion of using a larger filter, but I've not heard of one that has metric threads to match the new engines.

Mobil even wins the jug-size (can I say that? ;-)) competition. It's available in a 5-qt bottle.
Allright guys, I changed the oil today and found a milky substance on the filler cap! When I drained the oil it looked fine meaning that I didn't see any foam or milky substance in the oil. My radiator is full and the motor runs great so I know there isn't a blown head gasket. What is this? Is it due to the cold temperatures of 30 and below or am I in trouble?
Having this same problem on my '97 F150. Posted a message in the "97 and up trucks" section. I have a milky film on the bottom of my oil cap but nothing on the dipstick. Haven't noticed any abnormal amounts of white smoke coming out of the exaust but the truck is missing and I have been having to fill my radiator up 1/4 of the way every two weeks. I'm taking mine into the shop tomorrow to see if my gasket's blown, cracked heads, or what. Wish you the best. If I get any answers will come back here and post them.
I think condensation forms on the plastic cap when the engine cools. The water droplets then "mix" with the oil that gets splashed up during operation and forms the film you are seeing. Since hearing about several others having the same experience, I don't worry about it. Both my Expy and F350 have the white film.
Hi all,
I use Mobile 1 10W/30 and as far as the cost goes, I buy it in the 6 pack at Costco for $19.98, thats $3.33 a quart, wich I think is a pretty good deal.

I wholeheartly agree and offer another possible scenario. Some condensation in the engine could also be burning off and evaporating through the oil fill. Either way that milky stuff could only be caused by two things. Water and Oil mixed or you're loving your truck WAY TOO MUCH!!

Whatcha usin' 10W/30 fer?? That 5W still protects and probably does it a lot quicker that the 10W in the cold! Plus that's what Windsor wants us to use.
