I was cleaning my leather seats today and I noticed they are flaking. Its an 04 SCrew with less than 38k miles. The black leather is coming off in little pieces leaving a different shade of black underneath. If I rub a cloth over the seats, it gets filled with the little flakes. Has anyone had this happen to them? I am a perfectionist and this is going to bother me. Is there anything I can do to stop or prevent it? I really dont want to buy new leather covers.
Not sure about anything to stop it (maybe leather conditioner / protector) but I have seen pictures of getting it repaird. It looks good when its done. Leathermedic.com is a fairly large company and may have some franchises around you. There is a link to a coupe pictures of a franchises work. http://www.leathermedicmn.com/ I have no idea how it would hold up.
Thanks for the info. When I get the money I might have to check that place out. The nearest place to me is still quite a ways away but it might be worth it.
I have a 06 Lariat. My driver side back rest is peeled, because I am a DA. Last time I went fishing I jumped in, with a pack of fish hooks, and scratched all the way down my leather back rest.
Oh well, anything can be fixed, but for now, my seat belt hides it perfectly.
I just bought the truck about 2000 miles ago or 4 weeks ago. When I was looking at the interior I saw the leather had some wear wrinkles in it but I never noticed these spots that only seem to get worse. Now that I know they are there I cant stand it. Im really particular about my stuff and I even use the nerf bars to get in so I dont squish down the one side of the seat while getting in. Stuff like this always happens to me!
These things happen to me too Reggie. Like you, I'm a perfectionist. I use the bars to get in and out and the side of my drivers seat is cracking. No flaking. What's flaking off is the paint that they paint the seats with. It gives it a more uniform look over just dyed leather.
