I've got a stock 77 F150 with the 400 in it. The motor is all stock, with a fresh bottom end. I've been thinking of getting a new cam to help the low end a bit. I want a stump pulling truck with tons of power down low but i don't want to change pistons or heads to do it, which I know will limit me some. After searching the site I've narrowed it down to these two cams - 255DEH or XE256. Keep in mind the motor is and will be stock minus headers and exhaust. I will be using the stock intake and carb, and I will of course dial the carb in after the cam swap.
So help me please - With a stock motor which cam will be best? Keep in mind, all I want is the best low end cause this truck doesn't see much open highway.
The 255DEH is a little better at low end. It puts out 430 ft-lbs torque@2000 RPM vs 429 ft-lbs@2000 RPM for the XE256. The XE256 is much better at 3500 RPM.
These figures were simulated with a 600CFM carb and large tube headers with mufflers.
I've got the 260DEH with Holley 630 Truck Avenger on a Weiand Action +, headers, use it to pull my travel trailer, lots of grunt low, pulls well. idles like an old truck should!!

thats better? har de har. anyway...from what i've been told and read the xe is a bit more aggressive...my choice. with stock cr youd be happy with both...xe if more hwy in the 3k range but even that is negligible i think.

I doubt that a 'Seat of the Pants' test would show any difference between them.
BTW, I hope that you are going to get the complete kit including valve springs. You are asking for trouble if you use the stock springs.
