There was question in one of the other forums that said "why does ford short change us on HP & torque" .This question set me to thinking alot Ford really has short changed alot of us in ways moreso with the 5.4 & the V10 these engines are really short in the horsepower and torque department the 5.4 liter should have 325 hp from the factory and the V10 should have 425hp. some mechanics at the local dealer was at a ford factory training seminar the question was posed what kind of improvments are going be made to the V10 .the answer was we dont know of any for a year or two to me that dont sound good and I know what every one is thinking well fuel economy IMO people that have V10 s in their trucks dont give a s@#$ about fuel economy and from what I have read here most people are intrested in getting more from thier V10s ford dont even offer no hipo parts for the V10 Im talking about a better set of heads ,camshafts .SVT could build this stuff and it could be marketed for a reasonable price after all they did it with the mustang Gt in 96 the 4.6 liter in 96 only had 210 hp in the gt, SVT introduced a set of heads for 1400.00 and installation kit included that gave you about 40 more hp why cant ford do that with the 5.4 & V10 after all more trucks are sold than mustang gt's ford seems to be leaning more and more toward superchargers now thats fine for cobras and escorts but for work trucks a good set of heads with bigger valves, port and polish job good set of camshafts profiled to make plenty of torque and some computer changes, and exhaust system matched to the engine would make a good all around package for those of us wanting the ultimate V10 or 5.4 and even a better gesture from Ford would to offer this from the factory either as standard package or performance option just alittle something to think about
In your opinion, why is "working" the heads is better than adding a roots style supercharger for trucks?
Personally, I think it's easier & cheaper, from a production standpoint, to just add a blower instead of P&P heads for several hundred thousand trucks. Ford has to look at cost/benefit ratios on a very large scale whereas we see it only for our truck.
Nomo ,
You could very well be right about production cost but giving fords past history with modifing the 4.6 liter it is cheaper for ford to sell the parts than for the individual to have the work done, and the price of the vortec supercharger or paxton is in the 3500.00 range which are all fine eqiupment im sure but my main complaint is ford could give the 5.4 & V-10 more horsepower and torque or at least make the means availble for us to do it on our own with help from SVT like they do the mustang boys
