Depending on which year your truck is, I recommend checking out either the 2004+ F150 or 1997-2003 F150 sections and asking there, or in the 4.2 engine section.

I wouldnt recommend getting a used engine, if you were even thinking about it. Unless you hear it run and know its mileage for sure, the 4.2L is not a good engine, at least in my opinion. Having said that, 218,000 miles is really not too bad, no matter what kind of engine. If the truck is worth it, buying a new engine is probly your best bet.

I found out ( as you said ) that these engines had a lot of problems with gaskets resulting in blown engines; so I, feel lucky to have driven those miles trouble free. I found a remanufactured engine at powertrainproductsstore.com, for $1699, out of Michigan. They also are offering free shipping and no core charge for 30 days and a decent warranty. My truck;by the way, is a 1997
