SCT Engine Braking

Hey Spartans,

Questions about Jake Braking with the SCT. Is the engine braking provided from the turbo variable or wide open? Would it be possible to provide the truck with an input from an upfitter switch to activate the Jake? Would applying that much backpressure to an unloaded engine cause any harm or damage? Would the sound and tone be similiar to a big rig but at smaller scale?

Reason I ask is I tow a large trailer once in a while and would enjoy the advantage of jaking but I also think it would be pretty cool to come flying in somewhere and crack open the jake to slow down.

OMG.....I think I have officially become a redneck!

i dont know about the 6.0 but on the 7.3 its with the EBPV not a jake style, its an exhaust brake not a jake so it just goes pshhhhh not the jake noise but thats on a 7.3 so i dont noe for sure about the 6.0 but i would assume its the same

Badluck is absolutely right. I do not believe anyone actually makes an engine brake for the 6.0 at this time. Engine brakes are quite a bit more complex than exhaust brakes in terms if design engineering and installation.

As to whether or not you could flip a switch to activate it, not easily if you are using a tuner to employ the function. A lot of things have to happen together to make the exhaust braking function workk properly. The VGT had to go to the right spot, the TC has to stay locked; the transmission has to in the proper gear etc etc.

And if it's the sound you're gunning for, sorry you're just not going to get it You'll just have to go buy a Kenworth if that's what you need... Then you'll really be a redneck "Honey.... I bought a Kenworth to pull the trailer so I can sound cool on the highway!"

LOL!!!!!

I don't care who you are, That's funny right there!

Well the "pssssshhhhhh" wet fart sound coming from my truck would probally get more laughs than anything.

I can't remember the exact name but I believe I am developing TMMS (Too many modifacations syndrome) and should maybe stop before I have a sig 20 lines long and a turbo sticking out of my hood!!!!

Ahhh....... screw it!

I think the term was PMS (Powerstroke Mod Syndrome) coined by 6L PWR in another thread

Good to know I'm not the only one afflicted......

It is only a matter of time before other people are infected with it. You can't fight it, best thing is to just give in and take solace in the fact that once your bank account is empty that will hopefully be enough to help cure you of your affliction.

Last I heard, he was waiting for custom tunes himself, with a 4" Turbo back on order.
