v10 engine swap
I am contemplating buying a '99 F350 V10 with a sick engine. I have checked around and been lead to believe that because this engine is relatively "new" in the automotive world, anything short of a Ford ceritifed rebuilt engine is a mistake. The local deal has quoted me $5600 (out the door) with a 2/24k warranty. I have found that a salvaged engine is not much cheaper than this, and without much of a warranty...and suggestions?
Thanks
I dunno, if you're looking for a deal on the F-350 because of the bad power plant it better be going for the right price. Have you checked the wholesale and retail dealer buy/sell prices on Edmunds?
The thing that I immediately thought of was if you went with a mid-90s F-250-350, even with a bad or worn engine, you could get one heck of a 460 built for that five grand, one that would last you many years and have incredible performance, too.
Seriously, I don't know how set you are on that year truck, but you could get something awfully nice if you went with only a two year older ride. I understand that you might not want an older truck but I don't know what your needs are.
In the event you really want that one, like I said, the price would definitely need to be right.
Not too long ago I paid $8,300 for my 96 F-250 460 long bed ex-cab with 110K miles on it. Engine and body are in fantastic shape and it easily does the hauling I need it to do. I like it much better than the 2000 F-150 5.4 I also drive. Buying a comparable '99 with a V-10 would have cost me twice as much. It just wasn't worth it to me.
Anyway, enough of my rambling
....But you did ask!
