I need to know what I can do to get more power at a resonable price. My buddy has a powerstoke and just got a chip that gave him 100 hp. I have a 2000 4x4 sc f250 with a V10, we have the same travel trailor (28ft) and I used to be able to outrun him up the hills, but not now. can I upgrade to keep up, or is it a lost cause. I can't afford a supercharger, but can I get enough out of chips and exhaust.
Sorry, I think a blower is the only thing that'll give you enough power to keep up now. A chip and full exhaust may get you another 50-60 RWHP at best.
I had the Gale Banks PowerPack system installed, and tho it didn't add 100HP, it definitely make a big difference in throttle response and acceleration. Gale Banks claims "the stainless-steel PowerPack adds best gains of +56 hp, +67 lb-ft torque, and 7% more miles to the tank-full."
Check it out: http://www.bankspower.com/app.cfm?appid=AF05
To get even more power, I'd agree that you'd need a blower. At some point in the future, I'd like to add a blower. With the Gale Banks PowerPack, the blower will perform better, mainly due to the increased exhaust flow of the long tube headers.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Apr-02 AT 09:45 PM (EST)]With that 100hp.your buddy is going to be running some seriously high exhaust temperatures towing .The 100hp.chip is probably fine for short runs while empty, but I would be afraid to tow a large trailer up a long incline with the pedal mashed :-X23.
>how much did the banks power pack cost and was it worth it?
Well, we had it installed about 1 1/2 years ago along with a rear air bag system (with on board compressor) and the Edelbrock shocks, all at the same time. I believe the total bill came to around $5k out the door (parts & labor).
thanks for the info on the exhaust. Now i'm wondering if a chip makes that big of difference in your power the specs don't seem like you are gaining alot. If anyone has any info or first hand experiance it would be very much appreciated.

I just purchased one a couple of months ago for $1500. Less expensive alternatives (aka Borla) are available that will give similar gains if you don't feel like shelling out the $$ for the "premium" Banks system.
I'm very pleased with the performance of the Powerpack. Am considering a chip sometime in the future.
>I am just curious...what was the fuel mileage comparison
>before and after his mod?
Honestly, I saw no difference in mileage, as the mods made it more fun to drive. And we all know how mileage goes to H*ll when step on the loud pedal.
We're currently getting around 9 to 10 around city driving, and 14 to 15 on the hiway. We drove from the SF Bay Area to the Grand Canyon after Xmas - fully loaded Ex (without a trailer), we averaged 14.5. Keep in mind, an Ex has the same aerodynamics as a shoe box especially at 85-90MPH...
To clarify a bit, we got the whole PowerPack kit (headers, exhaust, CAI, chip, and transcommand).
