Question intake manifold swap help please!

do i need to completely remove the distributor from the block to replace the intake manifold on a 289? or, do i just need to work around it? if it needs to go, how do you remove it? i removed the retainer at the base but it won't budge.

thanks, jay

It can be done without removal, but it's not easy. Just pull it out. Just make sure to wiggle it to dislodge the oil pump drive so it doesn't come out too.

Make sure you mark where the rotar is pointing and also mark the distributor to block location. -- Chuck

the distributor is stuck because of years of carbon build up, use a wood peace like hamer handle to pry it up, and then shoot some lube and push it down again then pry it up,you see the method. it will finely come out. remember it is made of alumminum, I am sure that is not the correct spelling but you understand, soft metal use caussion.
