What the #^%!

89' bronco II quit abrubtly, no trouble codes, good spark, absolutely no compression whatsoever registering on any cylinder. Took valve covers off and they seem to be working and moving fine. Do I have a belt or chain driven cam and is it possible that it could have skipped, or am I looking at something worse? By the way the fuel pump is working good and fuel is definitely spraying in the cyclinders when I turn the motor over with the starter. Any help would be great I'm stummped.

2.9l 's are chain driven as for the timing..if everything is moving fine as for the valves then the cam is not broken. you may have a major internal problem. how was it running last time it ran??

I had it on the highway and it seemed to be running pretty good, then with no warning or symptoms it stopped. Now when I turn the motor over there is obviously no compression. Could something be blown?

When mine did it @ 70mph, it was a broken camshaft.

Probably the timing chain. If jumped time, the compression stroke is not in time with the valves opening and closing. In other words, a valve is open when piston comes up on compression stroke.

yeah,it could have jumped time...pull the distributor cap off,pout #1 piston at tdc and see where the button is pointing to..that will tell you if it is out of time..hope this helps
