How many miles on your ball joints, is the truck lifted? Does it get worse when ur in 4x4 maybe u joints? Do you have a steering stabilizer, my bracket once got twisted around a little and it kinda clunked till i straightened it back upright.
Check torsion bar down links and bushings. Jack the front end up and grab the tire at top and bottom and try to move it, if any movement at all , probably the ball joint. Is there any slop in the steering? Could also be a tie-rod end. Do a search on here, you'll find lots of reading on this subject. Hope this helps.
I would start by disconnecting your front sway bar links to try and isolate the noise. If still there w/sway bar disconnected, I would then look at the ball joints. I had upper and lower go bad on driver side at 27K mi. Right side upper and lower at 36K mi.
It could also be the front axle u-joints. Your hubs might be partially engaging. It wouldn't be the first time hub malfunctions stump even the seasoned mechanic on these trucks. I had a noise similar as you describe on turning, but only at full left or right .
The factory ball joints don't hold up very well. I would check them and if they need repalced make sure you insist on the MOOG brand. They hold up a lot better.
