looking to upgrade

I have a 08 factory 6 disc cd changer and sirius with steering wheel controls without factory sub (should have gotten factory sub). I am wanting to upgrade to a touchscreen with navigation, and add a powered sub.

1. Does anyone know if I will loose the steering wheel controls? My guess is yes.

2. Any recommendations on a touchscreen with navigation?

3. Any recommendations on a powered sub that will fit behind the back seat in a Crew Cab? Would it be easier to add the factory sub?

Thanks,
ADT7108

1. If you go with the OEM navigation, no. If you go w/ an aftermarket navigation, there should be a retro fit cable or some kind of remote adapter that will allow you to keep the function of some if not all the controls.

2. Pioneer has good looking nav units. Eclipse or Kenwood are also good alternatives.

3. MTX makes a thunderform for previous year Super Duties. I'm not sure if they have one available for the 08 yet.

I have recently been trying to help someone else in the Super Duty forums with suggestions on a system for the 08. I'll go get the info I put together for them and copy it here.

Edit\
Here's a couple systems I spec'd out that would be pretty nice set ups. I am partial to the Kenwood stuff as I like the external navigation with SD card updates as opposed to the DVD based navigation of the Pioneer, but the Pioneer gets good reviews around here too. All prices are from Crutchfield, which usually runs around MSRP. You should be able to get the stuff much cheaper if you shop around. This will show you how much more you can get for your money going aftermarket though.

Pioneer
Head Unit AVIC-D3 $899.99
XM Navtraffic System GEX-P10XMT $199.99
Bluetooth Phone System CD-BTB200 $179.99
Ipod Video Cable CD-I200 $29.99
Steering Wheel Interface PAC SWI-PS $69.99
Total $1379.95

Kenwood
Head Unit DDX7019 $999.99
Navigation KNA-G510 $799.99
XM Naxtraffic GXM30 $259.99
Bluetooth Phone System KCA-BT100 $199.99
Ipod Video Cable KCA-iP300V $29.99
Steering Wheel Interface PAC SWI-JACK $69.99
Total $2359.94

For example I just checked Sonic Electronix and I can get the exact same Kenwood setup for $1469.94, the same Pioneer setup for $1166.95. I would definitely shop around.

If you don't need bluetooth or XM you can drop those items to save some money. You can also drop the iPod cables if you don't need them.

For a subs I would either go with this box with 2 Image Dynamics IDQ10 subs.

Thanks for the info riggz and beerstalker. That really helps get me going in the right direction.

Question on the subs, what amp would you use?

look for an amp that can push 600watt rms @ 2 or 1 ohm.

I have the Pioneer AVIC-D3 with Bluetooth, XM, and backup camera. I have been REAL pleased with all aspects of performance. I opted not to buy the steering wheel control but it is certainly available.

Look into JL Audio's CleanSweep. They allow upgrading your stereo while keeping factory controls.
