2wd vs. 4wd....

) you probably don't need to pay for and then pay to lug around for the next five years or whatever all the heavy stuff associated with 4WD. If you're ordering a truck, like others have said be sure to get Limited Slip Differential. Big 4WD 'monster trucks' are cool but how much are you willing to spend, not just to buy it, but to operate it year in and year out? This cannot be justified by increased resale value.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
The '77 LB is used when snow or ice .... or even rain are present ..... and sometimes even on a clear day. I've had it since '86, it is my "go to" when I need to haul or work one. Someday, that might change ..... but for now .... she's there. I think she looks "about right" at stock OEM height so I have never considered altering it .... and don't have any plans to. I have a huge collection of parts for her that I have accumulated, someday she'll get that "makeover" I promised her. I thought about selling her when I got the '07, but buyers want you to give the truck to them for a song and the extras free ..... I'll keep her for that.
The '07 F-side spends it's "park time" in a car port, I try to keep her cleaned up, and in the interest of better road manners, easier entry / exit, and for the sake of simply "good looks" ...... I lowered her 2" and realigned her and like I predicted .... she drives better, exhibits better handling on curves, is easy to just "step into" and ..... she looks better. As a bonus ...... the bed is easier to reach over into from the side. That 2" made a huge "+" improvement all way 'round but especially in that reach over into a flareside bed.
I find that the 4x4 feature works just as well after lowering as it did before and the lowering 2" doesn't seem to have affected it at all. When I do take her into slick conditions, the 4x4 is there and when on the highway .... it doesn't appear to cost me anything substantial. I live in a rural area, there may come a day when I have to rely on that 4x4 to get myself or the "Wife Unit" to a medical facility or for groceries. 7 vehicles, only 3 are 4x4 or AWD.
I'd drop another inch but it'd cost more for that inch than the first two and I don't want to put excessive angles on my outer CV joints at near steering lock on uneven ground ..... and besides, as she sits, the front wheels are centered in the fender opening.
I also like that both my Ford 4x4s have that low range option.
