'89 Chev Cavalier

We just picked up this car and it has about 110,000 miles on it. It runs good when it runs, but it will buck a little and quit after about 20 miles. It has the 4.2 L motor. It will start back up after sitting for 3-4 minutes and idle fine, but won't stay running if you go to "D" or any other shift position,'til it gets about 5-6 minutes of idle. Changed the under vehicle fuel filter, am now considering the pump and tank deal. I have a fuel pressure gauge and would try it. Where would be the best place to check ? Filter, under hood, right out of tank??
Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me, and trust me I am not an ace mechanic, but I will give my thought.
Cat conv. went south, and is clogging up your muffler. I had the same problem with a 89/4cyl Mustang.
