Finally after 3 months, countless manhours, 3 engine R&R's, and more money than any sane person should spend, My Truck runs like it should!!!
So I went over to my local diesel shop about 3 blocks down the road, and talked him into strapping it on the the dyno for some after hour runs and a few beers and put down a max of 457hp. That was backed up with several 420 and 430 runs. . I knew she felt good driving around. Can't wait to get to a strip and see what kind of times I can pull now. Unfortunately I can't prove anything yet as this place doesn't have a printout and he didn't do the Torque. But then it didn't cost anything either. Great guy, and builds some pretty monster garage stuff, but really backwoods also. Either way, it was a good referance. I am freakin stoked. Oh yeah, and that was in my tow setting.
The new problem I am having is once it hits 40psi of boost, it drops back to 35, so I am losing boost on the top end somewhere. And adding more fuel by turning the chip up doesn't help. That is something I can work on as i have time though, I don't spend much time at WOT. Oh yeah, it did this on WVO as well . Man I'm stoked. Finally!!
Congrats man for getting it back together and running, I have followed your saga on and off for months..Those boots in the v are tricky..Bob Riley has the boost diagnostic tool to apply air to the system..
After you fine tune it and get the boost leak done..you WILL be at 500HP..
I'm happy for you, glad to hear it. After all that bullchit you wen't through, you finally got what you deserved. Do you know what kind of oil pressure youy are seeing on the dyno with that gen3 pump? Oh and how are the temps while towing, do you need an IC?
Thanks Guys! , Also, I want to give HUGE props to everyone here who helped me with this saga month after month. There were a few times I was really close to dumping the whole truck for cursed and starting over.
It may very well be a boost leak. I have found a place locally that carry's silicone 3 ply hose with a burst pressure of 100psi and then some MUCH better clamps, so I will try swapping all the old stuff for that. This stuff is at least twice as thick as the OEM stuff. And you know, I honestly didn't track my HPO at the dyno, but I have done that countless times on the street, and she holds at 3000psi easily. I am taking off today on a family Vacation to Yellowstone hauling my 12,000lb Desert Fox and 300 gallons of Fuel-Oil in the bed, so I will get to check out the towing. The intercooler will certainly need to be upgraded before long.
Congrats on getting the power back.
So, what was the problem, exactly?
Not sure where to even start on that one, however I can tell you timing was not an issue. After pulling the motor last time-Which I think I can do in the time it takes most to finish a beer now - The timing marks were spot on, but had the flat cam. Had a small leak on my up-pipes, small leak at my pyro probe, two lobes going flat on my cam, and a few other odds and ends. And I have to say, that the DP tuner in TOW added probably about 75 hp over the Brand X in extreme. Phenomanal.
So now how many are taking bets on how long before I break something else??
Oh, yeah did you put back in a stock cam, or the one DI was going to sell to you for a "cheap" price? If it's not stock, was any thing done to acommodate it as far as tuning?
