i was wondering if it is possible to convert the a/c compressor from a 4.9 liter straight six to an air compressor. i know this is a common conversion on the jeep a/c compressors but i am not sure if it would work on the ford compressors. if it does work how would i oil the compressor now that there isn't refridgerant lubricating the compressor?
i dont think so either.. your best bet would be to buy a 12 volt compressor, they have came along way. for a 200 you can buy a tank and a compressor. check these out http://suicidedoors.com/AirManagementCompressors.php
I don't see why not. Not sure on reliability, or what kind of pressures you will get. Are you going to add a tank? I would add a filter dryer and see how much oil it spits out. What are your intentions, Air tires, air impact wrench.....
the pressure probably wouldnt be too great..You'd need to add a pressure switch and i wouldnt see the point of doing it without a tank. i have two viair 480s on a 8 gallon tank on my s10, will fill the tank from 145-200 in 1 min 30 seconds
yeah i was planning on putting a tank inside the engine compartment or in the bed depending on how big i decide to go. i would mostly be using it for air tires and such and maybe occasionally using an impact gun on it
Somewhere here somebody was doing a York/Teschume(sp?) conversion that they had found. There once was an underhood compressor option using the same basic compressor as the a/c but some parts were changed. I believe it was late 70s, early 80s
yeah it can be done with a engine driven but your going to fab up all your own parts. check out s10forum.com and do a engine driven seach you will find more than you will know. them guys know everything about air. you will find what your looking for
