hard wiring a CB

I am trying to wire in a CB that has a cord with a cigarette lighter adaptor on it for a plug. I cut off the adaptor and figured I couldjust tap the power wire to the wire going to the cigarette lighter and run the other one to the dash frame. I did that and get no power. Last night when I plugged it into the cigarette lighter...it woorked fine. Any idea what I am doing wrong? How should I run this to hard wire it and not use the adaptor.

You probably need a GOOD ground, not just the dash frame. I'd run the ground wire to the firewall, and run the power wire either to the battery or the "I" post on the starter solenoid.
