It ain't right to pay $40-$50k for a truck and have it be torn apart in a couple months. I would get on Fords *** about any problems, maybe they will pay a little more attention to what comes of the line.
I hung out at Jacky Jones Ford this morning while moms Zephyr was in for a radio repair. They have only had 3 6.4s in with problems. One was the exact problem you are stating. The other was a bad turbo casting and was leaking oil out the cast iron housing through a pinhole. The third was a bad waterpump mounting gasket. There was one in that they were replacing the engine harness on, this was due to a tech dropping a ratchet and socket and broke the throttle plate connector. Ford does not have the connector shell by itself available. Thus the entire harness must replaced.
Also, the tech said that the first cab removal was a bear, took almost 3 hours due to a cage nut spinning freely in the frame. Now the tech hits the nuts with a torch for just a second to liquify the locktite and zips them right out. Cab removal can be done in less that an hour now that he does that.
Just go a call from Ford service on my truck. He told me that the power steering fluid leak was due to a crack in the steering gear box housing. The part is on order from Detroit and is at least 4 working days out. The oil was leaking due to failure of the front crankcase seal. That part is on order too. I'm not sure what to think. They are giving me a vehicle to drive while my truck is in for repairs. I doubt it will be a truck though.
Alright, so after the dealership having my truck for 10 days I got it back yesterday. I drove it home, crawled under to take a look around and what do I find? Power steering fluid all over the pitman arm, drag link, tie rod end, frame rail and so on. Now, I'm thinking its leaking again. I step back to think for a minute and give the mechanics the benefit of the doubt and maybe they just didn't clean up the mess they made installing the new steering box. I cleaned up all the fluid and checked the level in the resevoir and it was full. While checking the P/S fluid resevoir I notice the male end of an electrical connector just dangaling on top of the engine. What's going on here!!??? I immediately called the service department back and they just ask me to bring it back in the next morning. I agreed and went out to look around for anything else. Well, I found where the connector went. On the top center of the fan shroud was the female end. I'm not sure what this connector is for but I reconnected it and couldn't find any evidence of a P/S fluid leak. I guess they just didn't want to clean up the mess.
Well, this morning my wife was using the truck and each time she made a left hand turn the horn would go off. She scared a few people driving around today with the honking coming out of no where. I'm not sure what they did to my truck those 10 days. It is now back up at the dealer to see if they can straighten this all out. I hope they can in less time though.
I know, right. Latest from the service department is that a new contactor is needed to stop my insistent honking. I'm not sure how that got tampered with. I do know that the horn going off during left hand turns was not occuring when I took it to the dealer. Another part is on order and I'm expecting a call when it comes in to bring my truck back up there. Appreciate all the feedback.
Okay, so on Friday the 21st of September, I talked to the service department rep that has been handling my case. The contactor plate had arrived but the bolt had not. The bolt is a torque once type bolt that needs to be replaced if removed. Well, now my audio, climate, horn, and cruise controls on my steering wheel are inoperative. My horn also does not honk even if pressed. Each time I turn the steering wheel I can hear what sounds like little pieces of plastic cracking and falling off inside the steering column. Old, Ford guy says he is sorry and will try to get me a discount on my next service. I asked about this discount and he was thinking a discounted oil change. I'm over here thinking it should be a little more than that. Til' the next time. Matt
