Hi,this is my first post.I have a 91 f150 with the 5.8 liter v-8. It has dual tanks.Does this truck have 2 fuel pumps(one for each tank?) or only one?I had my truck on the rear tank and it really sucked down the gas and I had no power at all.I had to take the overdrive off just to reach 65mph.As soon as I put it on the front tank I had my power back.I also heard a banging noise from under the truck.I have no idea what that was,I thought it was the tranny. If this sounds like a fuel pump problem what model pump would this be?
And if I switch my tank to the front & I have power, why would the front pump be bad?
Because if the check valve was bad in the front FDM it would not let the rear fuel pump build up pressure as the fuel would be going into the front tank instead of the engine.
The front pump would work OK because the check valve would be open anyway while it is pumping. Normal operation.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel manifold and ground pin 6 of the VIP test connector plug with the key on and engine not running. Watch the pressure when you un-ground the pin, it should hold and then drop very slowly. If it drops fast you have a bad check valve.
Note the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) can let the pressure drop fast if it is stuck open or has a ruptured diaphragm but you say it runs OK on the front tank so we will guess that FPR is OK.
