97 ford read end
im looking at a 97 f150 that needs a rear. its a dumpy truck used for deliveries. im thinking about buying it spraying it at macco and throwing a light plow at it for a back up... i need to know what rear ends are in these things and what can i expect to pay for one? is it an 8.8 same as the older trucks if so i think i can get one with a aburn from a 94 bronco for cheap but would this fit? can i swap out the internals? also what is a junk yard pull on a 4.6 running now a days

If it has the 4.6L or 4.2L it has the 8.8 the 9.75 comes with the 5.4L and is a bolt in. Quite a few earlier Fords used the 8.8, like the CV but I do not know if all the shock mounts line up, I would assume not but could easily be modified. I have no idea what a rear is going for, a guy in another thread found a '97 4.6L for around $1400 with about 50K miles on it.

I'm pretty sure it's gonna have to be a 97-99. They bolt pattern is different on 97-newer and the frames are different also. 2000-up will have disc brakes so some other things will be needed there, plus they have larger wheel studs.

very good pretty much what i expected to hear thanx for the responses. the rear has lots of milage on it. thats why i was hoping to swap it out for a whole new one. but my friend does have a 8.8 built with an auburn. i would just have to re set it up i guess if i wanted to throw it at this truck.
