a buddy of mine is hunting for a decent 239 flathead to put in my '49. he found a guy who has two flatheads. one of them has two distributors the other a normal set up. Was dual distributors ever stock on a v-8 flattie?? is it some kind of mod.? if it is for real does each one serve on bank of cylinders?? seems like overkill? any info appreicated. thanks, dick r.
That would have been a custom built racing engine - no stock flatty was equipped that way. I've seen heads with dual spark plugs - also racing. Two wires per cylinder, one from each dist. Racers have tried about everything. I'd love to see a picture of this engine, especially the cam cover where the dist stalk is driven by the cam gear.
yeah i wanna see this too . i can remember dandy dick landy's trick for the time setup on the fabled hemi in the early 70's but i cant say i've ever seen a flatty anywhere like that .
I'm wondering if it's the early style crab dizzy and the late model style. You would have to modify the cam and timing cover but probably could make it work. Would look funny though.

I'm guessing he sees the twin snorkels for the wires on a crab dizzy and thinks it's two separate dizzies? And the other one is an 8BA. I can't recall seeing a twin-dizzy setup on a flathead, even drag racers. Not like an 8:1 comp ratio is going to blow out a flame
my friend has been negotiating with this guy for a couple of months to buy a flattie. i'll see if we can get a pic of the dual set up or whatever it is and post it here. dick r.
There have been a few Flatmotors built with dual Dizzy's and/or mags. Some looked very professional while some were engineered by CootieBob Hisownself.
