the timing advance on this trucks will retarded timing make it start easier or harder,as you might see with my other thread i have hot starting issues, will advancing or retarding the timing help this problem/?(ref thread "new pump and inj.same old problem")
bobpat204............please follow these steps to fix your problem:
fix a jumper lead (12 gauge) about 3 feet long
after the engine is hot and Will Not Start...........connect the jumper wire from battery + to the fuel cut off solenoid.......if the engine starts you have a voltage problem........(as the temperature goes up inside the IP, it changes the resistance in the wiring of the fuel cut off solenoid and then it requires more voltage to work)................make sure you have a Minimum of 8.5 volts at the solenoid when the starter is engaged.....................if you have 8.5 volts, then the solenoid is Bad .................
If the engine still does not start when hot and you have checked the above:
connect the jumper wire from battery + to the timing advance solenoid and start the engine.................If the engine Fires Off, the IP timing is very Retarded.............................Advance the IP timing until the Hot engine fires off every time WITH OUT ANY VOLTAGE to the timing advance solenoid.................
Most likely you will find your problem in the above, if not then post back and we will go for there......................
thanks for the troubleshooting tips, ran 10 gauge jumper to the fuel cutoff and no start hot, tried jumping in the cold idle still no hot start, had 9.6 volts at fuel shutt off sole.during cranking hot,had 9.8 volts there cold during cranking(these are after glow plug cycled off)
